Stepping into Purpose: My First Two Weeks as Graduate Marketing Officer at Cahoots

I’m proud to share that I’ve recently started a new chapter in my career as a Graduate Marketing Officer at Cahoots Org.

Starting a graduate role is an exciting milestone, one that brings both opportunities and challenges. I waited two weeks to share this not because I wasn’t excited, but because I wanted to take a moment to reflect honestly on the experience of beginning something entirely new.

The truth is, the early days of any role can be overwhelming. Two weeks ago, I was navigating new systems, new faces, a new routine, and an entirely new environment. Like many grads, I was eager but unsure, determined but a little nervous.

What I’ve come to realise is this:

You don’t need to have everything figured out on day one. What matters most is being surrounded by the right people.

Now, with two weeks under my belt, I’m starting to find my rhythm. The initial nerves haven’t entirely disappeared, but I’m beginning to build confidence and that’s largely thanks to the people I’ve been lucky enough to work with.

The team at Cahoots has been nothing short of welcoming and supportive. I’m incredibly grateful to my manager Marie, whose leadership and mentorship have made a significant impact on my transition into this role. Her guidance has created an environment where asking questions, making mistakes, and learning are all encouraged.

The welcome pack she prepared on day one was a thoughtful touch, and her patience and encouragement have helped me feel grounded from the very start.

On my very first day, Marie brought me along to one of Cahoots’ programs to film and capture content. It was an invaluable experience, not just professionally, but personally. Meeting the participants, engaging with the team, and seeing the impact of our programs first-hand was an immediate and powerful reminder of why I chose to work in the not-for-profit space.

That experience gave me clarity and purpose. From day one, I got to see the heart of Cahoots in action.

If you’re a graduate just beginning your career and feeling uncertain, know that you’re not alone. Starting something new can feel daunting, but it also comes with so much opportunity for growth.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a team that are even half as supportive as mine, then you’ll be in good hands. Be kind to yourself, stay curious, and take it one step at a time. You’re more capable than you think.
