As part of the Scotch Global Career Acceleration Program, I had the opportunity to work alongside a talented team of peers to deliver a strategic consulting pitch to three senior directors at RSM Australia, one of the country’s most respected professional services firms. With a global presence spanning 120 countries, 900 offices, and over 65,000 professionals, RSM is known for its deep expertise in audit, tax, and consulting, and its commitment to helping mid-market businesses grow with confidence.

Our challenge was to analyse emerging business trends and market growth opportunities, and to present a compelling recommendation for RSM’s future strategic focus. After extensive research and analysis, our team identified cybersecurity as a critical growth area, particularly for small to medium enterprises (SMEs) that are increasingly vulnerable to digital threats but often lack the resources to respond effectively.

I opened the pitch by framing the urgency of the issue: in Australia, a cyberattack occurs every six minutes, yet a significant portion of businesses remain underprepared. We proposed a phased, multi-tiered cybersecurity strategy for RSM, including the recruitment of elite specialists, internal education initiatives, and the development of scalable, cost-effective advisory services tailored to SMEs. Our plan also included a national awareness campaign, strategic partnerships, and a long-term roadmap to position RSM as a market leader in cybersecurity consulting.

Throughout the process, I contributed to the development of our narrative, co-authored the pitch script, and helped shape the visual presentation of our ideas. The experience sharpened my skills in market analysis, strategic communication, and collaborative problem-solving under pressure.

What made this experience truly memorable was the incredible support and mentorship we received from the RSM team. Their openness, insight, and genuine interest in our ideas created a space where we felt empowered to think boldly and present with confidence. The program also offered invaluable networking opportunities, allowing me to connect with professionals across consulting, marketing, and digital strategy, connections I hope to nurture as I continue building my career.

This project reinforced my passion for consulting and my interest in the intersection of cybersecurity, business transformation, and strategic growth. It was a privilege to contribute to a real-world challenge for a firm as forward-thinking and respected as RSM.
